In this session, Shiren Patel (Innovation Technology Consultant and Interim Head of the Digital Research Environment) and Dr. Pavithra Rajendran (Senior Data Scientist and NLP Technical Lead) from Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust will discuss on the challenges with unstructured data (e.g., texts, images) which contains large amounts of potentially important data that remain unused and why it is not feasible to manually extract the information and the potential opportunities to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to enhance multimodal data more usable for secondary usage. They will also talk about their current projects that make use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques for automatically extracting useful structured information from unstructured text reports, development of their current on-premise infrastructure and adoption of some of the best practices around software engineering lifecycle and Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAP).
