As you will be aware, the UK risk level for coronavirus has been increased from low to moderate. However, the risk to individuals has not changed and remains low. ExCeL remains open and events are taking place as planned.

 

We will continue to follow advice from the Government, the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England.  

 

Please find here a detailed assessment and procedure document, prepared by Meditechs in line with guidance published by the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England. This has been prepared for ExCeL London and outlines how we will monitor the venue and deal with potential cases.

 

A coronavirus is a type of virus and typical symptoms include fever and a cough that may progress to severe pneumonia causing shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. 

 

Advice for UK residents and international visitors:

The advice for UK residents who think they may be affected is to take common-sense steps to avoid close contact with other people (as much as possible), including not going to work, school or public areas and not using public transport. Please contact NHS 111 or make a GP appointment. International visitors can also contact NHS 111 or 999.

 

NHS 111 is a 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week telephone advice service for members of the public to phone if they have an urgent medical concern; 999 is the contact number emergency services (Ambulance, Fire Brigade and Police), for urgent assistance.

 

Please be aware that calls to 111 from a foreign-registered mobile phone, within the UK, may not work and may not be free. For anyone unable to call 111, the alternative number is 0300 020 0155. 

 

Attending events at ExCeL:

If you are due to attend an event at ExCeL and think you may be affected, please stay indoors, either at home or within your hotel room, avoiding contact with other people and please contact NHS 111 or 999. 

 

Anyone who has travelled from China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, or Macau, in the last 14 days and is experiencing cough, fever or shortness of breath, should not travel to ExCeL, even if symptoms are mild.

 

If someone begins to feel unwell whilst attending an event at ExCeL, they should visit the Medical Centre, located on Level 0, within the central boulevard of the venue. Our onsite Medical team have been fully briefed and have plans in place to deal with anyone experiencing the symptoms of coronavirus, including separate areas to isolate people until they can be transferred to hospital.

 

There are hand sanitizers at every organisers’ office (located along the boulevard) and at both the east and west entrance. In addition, we have invested in a stock of masks and individual sanitizers, that we will make available as required. 

 

We are proactively encouraging staff, exhibitors and visitors to maintain personal hygiene, with advice displayed on digital screens, around the venue and within the ExCeL office (as attached).

 

Advice from the London Convention Bureau:

The London Convention Bureau (London & Partners) works closely with the UK Government in situations like these. Visitors can be reassured that the Government is monitoring the situation closely for the entire country, including London, and will continue to work with the World Health Organization (WHO) and international community. 

 

The following precautionary steps have been taken:

There is advanced monitoring in place at London (and other UK) airports with direct flights from China. Health protection teams have been in place at Heathrow since 22nd January and at Gatwick since 29th January.  This is in addition to medical staff who are already permanently in place at all UK airports.

Anyone who now returns from Wuhan will be safely isolated for 14 days, with all necessary medical attention.

China has introduced port-of-exit screening, so people exhibiting symptoms of coronavirus are not allowed to leave the country.

British Airways have cancelled their flights to and from Beijing and Shanghai until 29 February with immediate effect, while they assess the situation. 

Other airlines including Lufthansa, Air Canada, United Airlines, Air India, Air Tanzania have suspended flights to and from mainland China.
