Michael Street leads the Exploiting Data Science & AI Team, within the NATO Communications and Information Agency’s Chief Technology Office. This team applies innovative approaches and data science technology (big data and machine learning) to extract value and insight from data for users across NATO. The team’s projects include data analytics and AI for exercise assessment, technology trend assessment, resilience analysis and visualizing operational readiness. The team are also responsible for the dedicated cloud and on-premise technology environments used to develop and deploy these AI solutions. Since 2013 Michael led the Agency’s innovation activities; responsible for the identification, assessment and introduction of innovative and disruptive technologies. Innovation activity continues with studies of quantum safe cryptography, hypersonic technologies and low-cost autonomous systems are still coordinated by his team. Prior to this, he held a number of technical roles in NATO, leading projects to deliver innovative technology in-theatre and elsewhere. Before NATO, Michael worked in national government, academia and for a small high-tech start-up. He has authored over 50 scientific papers, holds a B.Eng in computer systems, an M.Eng is satellite data transmission, an MBA in technology management and a PhD on intelligent communication systems. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and was awarded the Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation’s medal for engineering achievement.
