Future trends: Is now the time to reassess the cost of data?
Over the past decade, enthusiasm for all things ‘data’ has gone virtually unchallenged. But we are arguably at a tipping point. Besides the cost of storing data, we’re starting to see its societal costs (it’s accused of helping autocrats and undermining democracy) as well as environmental impacts (storing vast amounts of the stuff requires electricity).
