Standards spotlight: AI and big data will disappoint without global standards
There are currently countless organisations worldwide working with big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence. These people are doing incredible things, but the potential of the technology will be missed without global standards. Just as standardisation in physical products (e.g. the universal shape for phone chargers) makes trade more efficient, so will standardisation in AI and big data. But right now, no such standardisation exists – and it could hold back innovation by years. In this session you will learn:
• Why AI and data producing/consuming systems need to be globally interoperable
• How technological interoperability = ICT standardisation
• Current Artificial Intelligence standards and the work of ISO/IEC JTC 1 SC42 AI Committee
